Green Future Offenburg

Identity-forming green spaces for Offenburg

The design for the 2032 state horticultural show in Offenburg aims to create a vibrant and livable landscape that is both ecologically sensitive and climate-adaptable. New green spaces should not only be aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and sustainable.

By connecting existing green areas with the city center, a holistic network of natural and urban open spaces is created. These projects shape Offenburg's identity and strengthen the community by providing spaces for interaction, relaxation, and communal activities while preparing the city for future challenges such as climate change.

Integrated Parks
The concept includes three strategically placed parks that connect the northern and southern landscape areas with the city center through designed river promenades and circular paths. These parks become permanent open spaces, creating new urban qualities. They provide areas for leisure activities, relaxation, and social interaction, enhancing the quality of life for residents through aesthetically and functionally designed urban spaces.

Connection and networking
A central goal is the holistic integration of Offenburg with green spaces. The new parks will be seamlessly incorporated into the existing green system, creating attractive links between different districts and the Kinzig river.

This network promotes ecological diversity and enhances the quality of life for citizens by inviting them to go for walks, relax, and strengthen their sense of community.

Urban Kinzig and Kinzig Park
A future-oriented landmark is being created at the entrance to the city: Between the exhibition grounds and the railway bridge, the Kinzig river will be revitalized with urban river promenades, terraces, and access points to the newly redesigned natural river.

The Kinzig Park, made possible by the relocation of a dike, offers direct access to the water and provides space for sports, play, relaxation, and socializing. A new playground, meadows, and shaded areas complement the concept, while a new train station and a park restaurant make the park attractive for both residents and visitors.

Renaturation of the Kinzig river and sustainability
The renaturation of the Kinzig river, including the creation of natural river sections and improved flood protection, is a key element of the design. By establishing retreat areas and ecological corridors, the Kinzig river becomes an attractive feature of Offenburg's urban landscape.

Our design places great emphasis on ecological planning, climate adaptation, and promoting biodiversity. The proposed measures are both environmentally and economically sustainable and contribute to the city's social sustainability. The 2032 state horticultural show will position Offenburg as a pioneer of sustainable urban living spaces.
