Integration of Urbanity and Nature
The campus expands in a carefully planned sequence from west to east, blending harmoniously into the existing surroundings. The architecture along Dudweiler Street creates an impressive gateway, serving as a welcoming gesture to the eastern campus.

At the same time, the Stuhlsatzenhaus creates spatial pockets that offer inviting areas for gathering and seamlessly connect the existing and new buildings. A central forecourt acts as the vibrant heart of the campus, linking old and new in an inspiring symbiosis.

Sustainable Mobility
The landscape concept promotes sustainable mobility by focusing heavily on cycling and public transportation. Covered bicycle parking, barrier-free parking spaces, and a ride-sharing concept enhance functionality. At the same time, the outdoor space is extended with green roofs and terraces, offering stunning views of the adjacent protected landscape and inviting visitors to relax.

Biodiversity
The campus biodiversity is supported by a range of measures: extensive green roofs, flow-ering meadows, green façades, and a network of green spaces provide habitats for insects and small animals. These initiatives promote ecological connectivity and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity.

Climate Adaptation and Sustainability
Climate adaptation and sustainability on the campus are based on a range of integrative measures that create a future-proof and resilient environment. Green roofs act as buffers during heavy rainfall and support local drainage. Additionally, a photovoltaic system on the green roofs reduces CO2 emissions and supplies part of the campus's energy needs. Pre-served forest areas and newly planted trees enhance evaporative cooling, provide shade, and help lower the surrounding temperatures. This positions the campus as a pioneer of sustainable and ecological landscape architecture.

Habitat for Wildlife
The flowering meadows stretching from the forest to the buildings provide valuable habi-tats and food sources for small animals. The green façades connect different levels of the campus, creating additional habitats for insects. The combination of intensive and exten-sive green roofs offers living space for insects and birds, while a moisture-regulating de-pression is designed specifically as a habitat for amphibians, water-loving insects, and birds. Finally, the forest serves as an important refuge and habitat for a variety of mammals, birds, and insects, fostering a connected and diverse ecosystem on the campus.

Europaplatz Mannheim Detail1

Activities
The Europaplatz is not only a place for relaxation, but also a space for various activities. Numerous seating areas are provided along the entrance areas to the surrounding buildings and on the connecting paths between the bus stop and tram stop, inviting visitors to linger. The different lawns are equipped with platforms allowing visitors to relax near the tiny forests and enjoy the birdsongs and nature.

Special platforms for temporary usage have been planned in the central area of the square, for example for night-time sky observations with telescopes from the planetarium. A large-scaled, high meadow is integrated to create a natural ambience and emphasise the transition from open lawns to groups of trees, enriching the city's image.
